The Wartville Wizard

Students learn valuable lessons about litter through the telling of this endearing story. The tale is about a neat and tidy old man who lives in a town filled with litterbugs and how he deals with those litterbugs (with a surprising twist). The class also describes what litter looks like, who creates it, why it is harmful, its ugly effects, and how to prevent it.

Details:

• Suited for Scouts, environmental clubs, schools, and church youth groups
• Ages: Pre-K through 2nd grades
• Class/presentation available in most North Dallas and Collin County cities

Students and Recycling

Students learn that they, too, make waste every day – just like adults. They learn what items can (and can’t) be recycled, and why it is so important to recycle. The students will also participate in a “Recycling What-If” game which reinforces the lesson!

Freddy The Fish

Students learn that what humans do can have terrible effects on animal habitats, especially in waterways. They also learn that students and adults need to be more aware of their actions and the consequences of those actions.

As Freddy the Fish goes on an adventure and travels downstream in the stretch of the river in which he has lived all his life, he encounters some surprising and even life-threatening obstacles. Students enjoy an interactive part of this adventure, observing and identifying the effects of human actions, and learn how these habits can be changed.

The Journey from the Trash Bin to the Landfill

After a presentation about what happens to the stuff you throw away (and learn where “away” is), students will play a game to reinforce the lessons of litter prevention and recycling.

Here Today, Here Tomorrow

Students learn about the most littered items in the world and their environmental effects on public health, plant growth, property values, neighborhood crime, vehicular accidents, and injuries to children and animals.

The most-littered items in the world are cigarette butts. Surprised? They contribute to fires, water pollution, habitat poisoning, health issues, and much more. Displays shared in this workshop will disturb you as will statistics and facts about cigarettes and butts.

The second category of most-littered items? Plastics. While Americans are recycling 12-13% of their plastic bags, almost 90 BILLION plastic bags, sacks, and wraps are used in the U.S. each year. That means 82 billion bags end up as litter or in our landfills.

In addition, Americans buy over 28 BILLION one-time use, disposable, plastic bottles of water each year – a good number of these are littered throughout our communities or end up in our waterways.
